Why You Need to Chelate Your Hair

When I first heard of Chelating hair I was immediately intrigued. One of my favorite Youtubers, ellebangs, who is a professional hairstylist, posted a video on the process of Chelating and how to do it to clarify your hair and make it silky and soft again.

Of course, I was on board, but what exactly is Chelating? Chelating is an intense clarification of product buildup from the hair. This is a beneficial treatment for all of us who use several hair products on a daily basis, or even for those of  us who don’t because we are all exposed to outside elements in our environment that can lead to buildup as well.

How do you Chelate your hair?

The process of Chelation, Chelating? can be done at a salon, but there’s also a home version that is possible with two simple ingredients: Dawn dish soap (apparently the Dawn brand is important), and a lemon.

-First, wash hair thoroughly with Dawn (It’s gentle, don’t worry) and rinse out soap.

-Second, take a lemon and squeeze it onto your hair and rinse again.

-Follow up with a deep conditioner to nourish your hair.

Voila! you have smooth, healthy and revived hair! The first time I did this my hair was so soft I couldn’t stop touching it all day. Give it a try, you won’t regret it!
